Bush can be as melodramatic as he wants, but that doesn+ and in most situations, keeping the rest of the government out of the loop is unacceptable.

He ought to have been forthright. But this is not the first time Bush has disregarded the Constitution he supposedly holds dear. A hazy cloud surrounds his administration's motives for an unprecedented war. He malnourishes the media, holding a minimal number of press conferences, restricting access to public documents and keeping photographers away from soldiers' coffins. He has kept us in the dark far too often.

So, Mr. President, now that you have agreed to discuss your domestic spying policy with the rest of our elected officials, we politely applaud. But, sir, this change is too little, too late. Come clean and from now on, keep us abreast of what you're up to.
