Spring festival adds more bands to lineup

The Nelsonville Music Festival lineup has added 17 bands in the past two weeks, including critically acclaimed alternative rockers Yo La Tengo and rockabilly icon Wanda Jackson, bringing the total count of announced performers to 20.

The entire list of newly added performers who will join headliners The Flaming Lips, George Jones and Neko Case at the festival can be found at www.nelsonvillefest.org.

“We’re super excited,” said Brian Koscho, marketing and promotions director for Stuart’s Opera House. “We were so excited to announce the three headliners, but part of me, working at the festival for the past couple years and working at Stuart’s, I really like when we start getting into the thick of the lineup.”

Local favorites Whale Zombie, Duke Junior and the Smokey Boots and Scubadog were also announced as performers for the May 13-15 event.

Weekend passes for the festival are available now for $70, single day passes for Friday and Sunday are $50 and a Saturday only ticket is $65. Ticket prices will continue to rise as the event gets closer, so Koscho advises buying them early.

With the addition of more high profile performers and Ohio-centered bands, Koscho said this year’s festival is gearing up to be a great time.

“It’s really starting to shape up,” Koscho said. “For those who have been there, this is shaping up to be the best one yet, and for those who haven’t been there, there’s absolutely no excuse. It’s going to be a really good time.”
