The rain poured down throughout the night in Athens, but that did not stop Ohio (7-4 overall, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) from taking care of business against UMass (0-11 overall, 0-7 MAC). Poor weather typically results in teams depending on the running game, and the Bobcats executed that to perfection. They ran 56 of 64 plays on the ground and averaged over six yards per carry throughout the game.

Although the government shutdown has ended, many effects remain as the nation returns to normal. Air traffic controllers were not paid during the shutdown, which led many of them to take time off or even find second jobs. However, this resulted in air traffic control towers being short-staffed and airports had to cancel 6% of flights, according to Reuters.

Food insecurity in Athens County has intensified following a recent lapse in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. According to the Athens County Foundation, 16% of Athens residents lost their primary food source during the lapse. An estimated 9,800 residents are food insecure, and 63% of the county is eligible for SNAP.
