To graduate from an education program in the state of Ohio and become a licensed teacher, students must complete a minimum of twelve weeks in a student teaching internship. While the internship is being completed, students act as full-time teachers and receive no pay for their work. Ohio needs to enact legislation to change this.

Ohio (1-4) hosted Ohio Christian (4-5) Tuesday morning for Education Day. Local grade school students packed the Convo and brought the energy Ohio needed to bring home a much-needed win. The energy was something Ohio coach Bob Boldon felt the team needed and enjoyed throughout the event while bringing home a 97-37 victory.

When you are an education major, you must complete hours in a classroom to gain hands-on experience before entering the field. Unpaid hours (a whole other issue) turn you from a student to a full-time teacher. As a part of the CARE program, which allows me over 200 hours of experience starting sophomore year, I have gained valuable information that I will take with me for the rest of my life.

Group Fitness Pilates classes start with the instructor calling the attendees to stand. She leads the group in a series of stretches while upbeat pop music plays through studio 219’s speakers. After stretching, the real workout begins. The group goes through the exercises quickly, but not hurriedly, and most are repetitive motions.

The federal government’s Drug-Free Communities Grant was awarded to two organizations in Southeast Ohio. The River Hills Prevention Connection of Lawrence County and the Adams County Youth Prevention Coalition were each awarded $625,000 toward reducing drug and alcohol misuse.
