There are many stereotypes about sorority and fraternity life, but most students on college campuses do not realize how much the community is affected by the organizations. Not only does each sorority and fraternity focus on a national philanthropy, they also focus on community outreach.
A saying that most women and men who are part of Sororities and Fraternities are familiar with is, “It’s not four years, it’s for life,” which is very true. Joining a Sorority and Fraternity Life organization can help to network into careers and opportunities to better oneself. There are many examples of women and men, which have been involved in Greek Life, bettering themselves and the world around them.
Last week, Sigma Chi sponsored its second annual Derby Days event to raise money for the Huntsman Foundation. Those gentlemen worked very hard in preparation and during this event to help it go off without a hitch, and it did.
Yesterday, I sat down to talk with Jon Berryhill, the president of Phi Gamma Delta, a fraternity on campus. I know many of the gentlemen of FIJI because of my involvement in the Sorority and Fraternity community, but after sitting down with this president I realized what role models these men are and what values and morals they follow.
In sororities and fraternities, “bigs” and “littles” are big deals. It is a type of bond that can’t be broken. But, the path to getting there isn’t so simple. It’s varies from Greek organizations.
