In October 2020, just over five years after same sex marriage was made a right, two justices, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, wrote a lengthy discourse in defense of Kim Davis, a Kentucky clerk who refused two gay marriage licenses. Both Justices have openly opposed Obergefell v. Hodges, stating that it disrupts the religious liberty of the United States and are urging President Trump to overturn the decision.

With a new coach and an easy group, the USWNT has seen some major change-ups to the starting lineup as well as the substitutions. Most notable during the match was Ali Krieger, who was out of the game for about two years under the previous coach, Jill Ellis.

However, at some point, a coach must realize that something is just not working for their team. With changes like starting Carli Lloyd, Samantha Mewis and Rose Lavelle, it makes sense that the chemistry seemed off with the USWNT.

The United States women’s national team released the Olympic qualifying roster for the 2020 Summer Olympics. This roster required three players to be cut from the World Cup Roster, bringing it down to 20. With Alex Morgan announcing her pregnancy, that allowed for a little bit of room to cut. However, fans were shocked when the roster was released and the young fan-favorite, Mallory Pugh, was left off the roster in favor of Jessica McDonald and Lynn Williams.

The United States women’s national team took on the Netherlands in the final of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The U.S. came out in a 4-3-3 formation while the Dutch changed up their typical lineup and showed up in a 4-4-2. The first half remained scoreless on both sides — a very uncharacteristic move from the U.S. team. The second half proved the turning point with two goals. With one from Megan Rapinoe on a penalty kick and one from Rose Lavelle, the USWNT took home its fourth star with a 2-0 final score.

The U.S. played in a 3-3-4 set-up, with the dangerous combination of Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan and Christen Press to lead the team. The U.S.’ defenders were in for a tough match, trying to hold up against the likes of Lucy Bronze, Ellen White, Keira Walsh and Rachel Daly. The match was a physical one, with both teams fighting to secure their spot in the finals. The U.S. came out on top, winning 2-1, with goals from Press and Morgan and a glorious penalty kick save from goalie Alyssa Naeher.
