Superhero movies have been a staple in theaters since the release of the first “Iron Man” film all the way back in 2008. Since then, there have been hundreds of projects piloted by Marvel to introduce every single hero who’s even had a single page in a comic book. One of the most popular trilogies to come out of Marvel Studios has been the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films and for good reason.
“Weed is from the earth. God put this here for me and you. Take advantage, man, take advantage.” - Smokey in “Friday” (1995)
“Hail to the king, baby.” - Ash Williams (Army of Darkness)
So far, 2023 has already proven itself to be a golden year of film. With grandiose upcoming releases like “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer” on their way in the coming months, it’s no secret to say that this year’s releases are not to be missed. However, 2023 has done something different than 2022, in that many of this year’s releases are surprisingly further installments to already popular franchises.

Through the years, there have been many acclaimed games that have been praised for their imaginative imagery, engaging stories or addictive gameplay. Many story games have even created their own series, including spin-off stories, in-game downloadable content or just multiple titles that all take place in the same in-game universe. Franchises like “Resident Evil,” “Silent Hill” and “Halo” have been around for years, spawning games, comics and books, and now they all have at least one live-action adaptation.
In my eyes, films are visual experiences that are made to evoke strong emotions, whether it be negative, positive or anything in between. While you watch, you’re supposed to be transported to another world and feel like you’re witnessing the story unfold in first person. A movie should leave an imprint on you after you finish it. You’re supposed to take away a piece of the world and/or something about the characters when it’s over. Movies should be immersive, and one of the easiest ways to make them immersive, in my opinion, is the music.
Even if you are not as invested in film as me, you probably at least saw tweets about it or some news articles published five minutes after each category was announced.
“Do you know what the happiest animal on earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? They got a ten-second memory. Be a goldfish.” - Ted Lasso
