Soccer: Ohio’s early win, strong offense indicates success

The Bobcats (1-1-0) started their 2026 season strong with a 2-1 win against the University of Illinois Chicago (0-2-2). Meaghan Cochrane led the team to victory by scoring two unassisted goals. UIC scored first, and Cochrane tied it up as the first half ended. Her second goal sealed the win for the Bobcats with only 10 minutes on the clock.

The Southeast Ohio region, including both Athens city and county, are still recovering from the heavy flooding that occurred Aug. 11. According to a report from the iAlert website issued by NWS Charleston, West Virginia, the city was met with approximately three to five inches of rainfall.
