While both Xavier and Butler shared the court at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, they also shared a familiar face in Butler coach Thad Matta. The Butler alum began his career as a head coach with Butler in 2000. Following his short stint with the Bulldogs, he left for a job as head coach of Xavier from 2001-2004. After his time at Xavier concluded, Matta then left and coached at Ohio State for 13 seasons before returning to Butler, his alma mater, in 2022.

In its first game of the season played in the shadows of The Convo, Ohio (12-12, 0-0 MAC) was unable to muster much of anything positive against Marshall (14-11, 0-0 SBC), losing 9-2. A game that was bookended by poor innings to begin and end the game for the pitchers spelled disaster from the start. Outside of a late rally that was snuffed out by Marshall, the home fans had little to cheer about due in large part to a tough day for the Ohio lineup against Marshall starter Bub Feringa.

Just a season after winning only six games and losing the conference’s leading scorer, Ohio has made its way back to Cleveland to play in the Mid-American Conference tournament. Ohio earned the No. 7 seed in this year’s tournament, putting them up against No. 2 Ball State in the first round of the tournament.

Over the second portion of its non-conference schedule, Ohio has failed to continue its initial hot start to the season. Since winning nine of ten games over a two-week span, Ohio has limped to a 2-6 record in the following weeks. While it is important to note the quality of competition over this span, Ohio certainly would have hoped to have won more of these games. During the Beach Chicken Brawl, Ohio showcased glimpses of the successful team from earlier in the season while ultimately being generally unable to break out fully.

While Ohio saw another year get added onto its MAC title drought, it still experienced a rather successful weekend. Only two wrestlers automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships, but many others put themselves in strong positions to earn at-large bids to The Big Dance. The highlight of the weekend was Peyten Kellar dominating his way to the 157-pound class title for his first individual conference title.

Much of the Gaza Strip has been demolished by incessant bombings and attacks from the Israeli military. Some experts estimate as much as half of all buildings in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged, which includes homes, hospitals, farmlands and desalination plants — Gaza’s main source of water. The war is obviously uprooting the lives of millions, but it is also wreaking havoc on an already climate-vulnerable region.

Feb. 12, the Supreme Court argued over the social media laws of Texas and Florida in Moody v. NetChoice. The two laws prohibit social media’s power of censorship over political and controversial content. If the laws are determined to be constitutional, a drastic change in social media could arise with an increase in darker content and fake news circulating the web.

After Wednesday night’s games, the MAC tournament field is set, and with Ohio clinching and Miami (8-20 overall, 5-12 Mid-American Conference) being eliminated, the implications for the game are next to nothing.

"Dune: Part Two" has almost everything you could want in a sequel. It has a stellar—albeit distractingly famous—cast, raises the stakes, expands on the universe's lore and ultimately does not disappoint fans of the first film.
