Few films stand as divisive as those labeled under the war genre. Audiences ease into dramas, romances and even westerns with familiarity and eagerness. With war, many turn away from its grizzly portrayals and gruesome realities. Observing humanity’s worst features is not always entertaining and deservedly so.

I have always used the lack of South Asian representation in media and television as a punchline with close friends and family. Aside from Ravi in “Jessie,” portrayed by Indian-American actor Karan Brar, and Mindy Kaling’s portrayal of Kelly from “The Office,” there weren’t many other characters that looked like me on television in the 2010s.

When I read the Metal Injection headline “Metallica’s Download Set Got Noise Complaint From 15 Miles Away,” all I could think was “rock on.” At the time, I was full of anticipation, as I was going to see the band on that same tour; if I got anything less than a similar sonic assault on my eardrums, I was going to be thoroughly disappointed.

Over the past few years, college athletes have gained more rights than ever before. In 2021, players were allowed to earn pay for their name, image and likeness (NIL). In 2022, they were allowed the ability to transfer more than once with an NCAA waiver. Now, in 2024, there seems to be unionization on the horizon for one specific team. Dartmouth men’s basketball is holding a vote to potentially unionize.

The “My Little Pony” fan base seems to be going back to its roots as infection alternate universes, or AUs, have rapidly gained popularity in the last few weeks. Drawings ranging from unsettling to gory have infected my TikTok For You page, and while I am currently enjoying the stories and creativity, I cannot help but think back to when my ten-year-old self was horrified by the “My Little Pony” horror movement in the 2010s.
