Spring break is the perfect time to relax your brain, and what better way to do that than by playing video games. There’s a caveat though. The amount of time with spring break versus the amount of time of winter break varies. Winter break is the time to play a meaty game like Red Dead Redemption 2. Spring break is not the time to start a Persona 5 but God of War would fit the time frame. Breaks, like all, are about maximizing your time to the fullest extent. Here are four games that will fill the time you have for spring break and leave you wanting a little more by Sunday night before classes:

When God of War’s journey came to a close it was clear the main stars, Kratos and Atreus, changed drastically. From the first shot of a somber and quiet Kratos cutting down a loved one's tree and a son who doesn’t know how to fit into his father’s life, the game expands both emotionally and with its gameplay. God of War breaks itself from its predecessors by shaping the story around identity instead of vengeance. For Kratos, he doesn’t know what his identity is — and that’s the real quest hidden.

A Way Out is a testament to its time. A mandatory co-op game in 2018 is unheard of when most games released in the past few years have been single-player only. However, the game wouldn’t make sense any way other than co-op.

It’s probably safe to say the beginning of the Nintendo Switch’s life cycle had an identity crisis. What was marketed as a hybrid console/handheld gaming device turned out to hold greater potential than to be believed. The Switch did not have the power of the PS4 or Xbox One. The Switch, when it came out in 2017, led the gaming market to show that the machine had more power then the predecessors, but Nintendo has never followed the mainstream. This did not stop developers from bringing their games to the device. Games like Doom 2016, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and Skyrim are given new lives on the Switch for portable play. Players are not forced to leave the open world of Skrim when they are on-the-go, which is awesome when the Switch's portability is put in perspective.

Knack 2 is a mixed bag to say the least. The combat has never been better with a robust moveset and an upgrade system that matters. The platforming achievements have a lot of variety as well. But even with the improvements made from the predecessor, Knack, Knack 2 could still be better.

For the second half of 2017, single player games have been the topic of risk, either from publishers canceling studios for making a narrative-driven, single-player game or the increase of multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA)-type games. Tales of single player games going away isn’t new, and both the narrative and facts haven’t changed in the slightest. The fear first started with games like Titanfall and Star Wars Battlefront II, not including a campaign in the game causing players to wonder if multiplayer-focused games were erasing single player experiences for good.
