In August, my dad and I got the immense privilege of going to the New Jersey stop of Metallica’s “M72 World Tour.” I’ve previously written about my experience, but I mainly focused on Metallica. However, I wanted to go to that show for another reason: Pantera.

According to a Billboard story released on Oct. 24, Spotify plans to change its monetization system for artists. While the multi-billion dollar streaming service claims that these changes are meant to prevent fraud, ultimately it will hurt artists more than it will help the company.

Busking on Court St. is an abundant practice, and street performers dot the many corners of Athens’ most iconic streets. The stories of the numerous buskers many know and love make their music even more special.

Rock ‘n' roll has been known for its peace-loving messaging since its invention, with songs like Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” and Jimi Hendrix’s “All Along the Watchtower” serving as genre staples. So, it makes sense that metal, with roots so closely intertwined with rock ‘n’ roll, would have a similar anti-war sentiment sprinkled with a little more anger.

On Oct. 11, "American Horror Story: Delicate" continued with Episode Four, "Vanishing Twin." The episode was a victim to the directionless feel of "Delicate," but it was the best installment in the series so far.

In August, I was lucky enough to get to see Metallica in New Jersey with my dad on the group’s “M72 World Tour.” It was amazing, and both nights were filled with Metallica’s staple pyrotechnics and iconic loudness. All members of the band seemed to be playing just like they would have been in their prime.

October marks LGBT History Month, highlighting the intense civil rights battle that LGBTQIA+ people have fought for years. During this month, each day celebrates a different notable LGBTQIA+ member or activist. In addition to honoring writer Jazmine Hughes on the day this year, Oct. 11 is also National Coming Out Day.

My early high school years were, unsurprisingly, not amazing. Being a gay band kid in a rural, sports-centric school district was not easy, especially as an underclassman. In those first two years, pop-punk music became a huge escape for me. Ever since the first time our band played “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs” by Fall Out Boy my freshman year, I was hooked.

Throughout its 12 seasons, "American Horror Story," fans have been haunted by "Murder House," have tried to escape from "Asylum" and have practiced witchcraft in "Coven." Viewers have traveled through time in each iteration of "AHS," from visiting the lost colony of Roanoke to reliving the 2016 election in "Cult." But as "AHS" continues to release season after season, the show has lost its magic.

Heavy metal and rap are not next-door neighbors in the city of musical genres. On a surface level, they don’t sound all that similar and combining the two seems bizarre. To some metalheads, the idea is an affront to the genre.

One of heavy music’s youngest vixens, Hannah Collins, a.k.a. Scene Queen, has graced us with a new song “Pink Push-Up Bra.” Adding another song with the word “pink” in the title to her discography is something fans of her music have been waiting for, but I believe that her newest release goes deeper than it may seem on the surface. Scene Queen’s brand of feminist metalcore is stirring up the modern metal world, and she is leading a new generation of increasingly diverse metalheads.

Code Orange has dropped some new music for us this September, and it’s definitely making impressions in the metal community. The Pittsburgh, PA, hardcore band is known best for its punishing, punk-influenced metal; in recent years, however, the band has begun experimenting with different sounds, ranging from nu-metal to electronic to music that defies genre. For a band of this stature, whose fame is owed to its very heavy origins, to change so drastically is not super common. Personally, I am not a fan of this huge musical shift.

As students return to Ohio University from summer break, the dreaded question of “What am I going to wear?” hangs heavily in the unseasonably warm September air. But every year OU is splattered with a wide array of styles and aesthetics, making this campus an ideal place to observe the fall semester fashion trends.
