Up until very recently, I hadn’t even heard of the “Sound of Freedom” movie. How I discovered its existence wasn’t by watching a trailer or seeing a poster for it at my nearby theater but rather by watching a conversation/interview between Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, Jim Caviezel (who stars in the film) and Tim Ballard on Dr. Peterson’s YouTube channel.

To this day, one of the most consistent franchises in Hollywood is the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. Each of the seven movies, although similar to one another in terms of plot structure, has something unique about them. Whether it be the choice of filmmaker or the creativity of the action set-pieces and stunts, the “Mission: Impossible” franchise isn’t afraid to experiment with its world and characters.

“Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to man. For this he was chained to a rock and tortured for eternity.” An opening quote that haunting deserves an Oscar nomination in its own right. What follows after is quite possibly the number one candidate for the best film of 2023.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (2023) opens with an extended-action flashback sequence where the audience is given the pleasure of seeing a beautifully done digitally de-aged Harrison Ford and his partner Basil Shaw (played by Toby Jones) fleeing from the Nazis on a moving train in the French Alps.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (2018) directed by Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman and Bob Persichetti came out at a time where it seemed like audiences had had enough of Spider-Man. Just in the last twenty years, we’ve had three different male actors portray the character in fourteen combined films. Fourteen! We’ve also had three animated television shows in which the oldest one dates back to the year 2003. That’s a lot of Spider-Man.

Wes Anderson is the gift that keeps on giving. So far in his career, Anderson has produced 11 full-length feature films and seven short films. All of these films have received critical acclaim, whether it be small or large, and have done financially well at the box office. He is one of the best filmmakers working today.

James Gunn has done it again. His newest film, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (2023), is a testament of how willing a director is to complete a film even when put in such awkward circumstances. When Gunn was fired by Marvel back in 2018 due to the resurfacing of old twitter posts posts he had made well over a decade ago that contained both rape and pedophilia jokes, it looked like Gunn was never going to complete his trilogy.

Many children under the age of twelve are not allowed to watch animated shows like “Family Guy,” “American Dad!” and “The Cleveland Show.” These were the types of shows that young boys and girls would have to carefully watch by themselves so that their parents wouldn’t catch them. The creator of all three television programs is a man named Seth Woodbury MacFarlane. MacFarlane is a man of many talents.

Tom Cruise is without a doubt the last real movie star in Hollywood. According to “The Numbers,” Cruise is currently listed as number five on the website’s “Top 100 Stars in Leading Roles at the Domestic Box Office.” You can confidently say that Cruise is a cash magnet for the entertainment industry. Whether you agree with him or not on his political and/or religious views, the man knows how to get people into a movie theater.

Black History Month is a great time of the year when Americans all across the country can recognize and celebrate what historical Black figures have accomplished. Political figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Sojourner Truth, Barack Obama and more, are all fantastic examples of excellence within the Black community. But, they only make up a small percentage of an even larger catalog.

Only until very recently, I wasn’t at all familiar with Shane Black’s career in the entertainment industry. The only film that I had seen that had Black’s name attached to it with both a director credit and a writing credit was “Iron Man 3,” released almost a decade ago. That film, for all of its mixed reviews and unsatisfied fans, is pretty delightful.
