“Don’t fix something if it isn’t broken.” This is a philosophy that is typically applied to decision-making and life as a whole. Altering a situation when nothing is wrong can very easily have negative consequences. It’s important to consider this and factor it into the thought process.

Oh, smiley Miley. Those of us who have been fans of Miley Cyrus since her Hannah Montana days have been lucky enough to witness her experimentation in the music industry. Cyrus has done almost all of it: Hannah Montana pop, country, pop within itself, rap and even folk. Most recently, Cyrus has taken to officially delving into rock, and to say that it’s working would be an understatement.

Uttering “I’m not into mainstream music; I listen to a lot of underground stuff” when followed by artists like Rex Orange County, Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys is certainly comical because of their wild popularity. Most of us have seen the Twitter jokes, and another band that fits right into this category is The 1975.

It’s no secret that most concerts weren’t able to happen this year. Concerts are the time to witness the incomparable feeling of hearing your favorite songs live, grab some merch and enjoy life. Many of us concert lovers, with a year full of set shows, are left only to be either biting our tickets or crossing our fingers that the rescheduled dates are able to pull through. Fans and artists are left in a waiting period, wondering if and when their next show can happen safely. In the waiting period, streaming services can be found as one ounce of a silver lining.

The ’60s, California, sunshine and feel-good tunes ... It’s easy to see how The Beach Boys fit right into this mix but interesting to see how they fit into other mixes.

We have reached the six-week mark of this semester, and now is about the time for reflection. We can reflect on study habits, grades, schedules or on online purchases made throughout the semester so far. It’s difficult at times to connect academic happenings to purchases that are made to relieve stress, but once in a while, the two can join hand in hand.

When it comes to organizing music, we are all pretty different in our individual systems. Some prefer just a saved library of every single song, some like playlists and others may stick to good old-fashioned physical copies. Whether or not you have transitioned into streaming services, leaving your “burning a disc onto the computer” days behind you, each of us has a routine that works for our preferences. These music routines are able to facilitate and represent a change of pace by changing with the weather just the same.

For many of us, the beginning of September is the start of crossing our fingers for reaching cool weather, enjoying hot beverages and absorbing all things spooky. It is the early stage of back-to-school shenanigans, and, for myself, growing up with two teachers as parents, it is usually a matter of officially kissing summer goodbye in every sense of routine. One thing that was able to remain consistent this summer was cooking out at home for dinner, and transitioning into my favorite fall treats comes at the cost of breaking away from summertime favorites.

With online classes, I find myself staring at my computer screen for most of the day. As my back is facing my doorway, sometimes I get the feeling that someone’s watching me. More often than not, someone is: four legs, giant ears, pink nose, fluffy tail and all. While it’s difficult for us students and our instructors to continue to make the transition, those of us with furry friends know all too well the feeling of being stared down for directing our attention elsewhere. After all, certainly in my case, it is their house and their rules.

A 19-year-old touching on nostalgia … is there really all that much to feel nostalgic about?

To say that there’s a lot going on right now would be an immense understatement. However, there is certainly a lot going on right now. This division, though necessary and valuable, can have us all feeling lonely in more ways than one.

There are countless warnings about leaving parents, siblings and pets when students leave for college. There is preparation to leave the town you grew up in, a job, life as it was once known. It’s all hard, yet the part that still continues to hit like a truck is parting ways with your very best friends.

February 24, 1977 marked the start of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours Tour, when the band performed the album written about everything. Rumours is Fleetwood Mac’s best selling album. It remains on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums today, after over four decades since it released. The success of Rumours is prevalent — the history behind the album and the tour that followed are what make Fleetwood Mac so unique.
