America has been social distancing for quite some time, and cases are dropping, which is great. It proves that staying home and out of the public works at stopping the virus. Now, people are antsy to get back to work, and understandably so, considering that they’re cooped up in their homes and not making any money to live in those homes. Additionally, the economy has taken quite a hit, so that is making citizens and politicians both eager to get life back to normal.

The 2020 presidential election has everyone talking about politics. It’s on the news, on social media and probably on your mind. It’s inescapable. Everyone wants to talk about who the leader of our country is going to be for the next four years. As we get closer to the presidential election in November, there will probably be reminders that it is going on everywhere we look.

In the age of podcasts and YouTube rabbit holes, it is easy to learn a lot about niche topics. Science, historical events, politics — if you can think of it, it is likely out there somewhere. Oftentimes, after surges of looking things up and going down several rabbit holes of the internet, people find themselves getting bored. Yeah, things that can be proven are fun to learn about, but trying to uncover fantastical information that has been kept “secret” from the general public by a “higher power” is more interesting than anything we can prove.

The “alternative right” is undeniably damaging and toxic to American politics. Anytime intolerance presents itself in a culture it creates a fear and disturbs the constructive political conversation that is otherwise likely held. Unfortunately, because the alt-right makes use of the word “right”, many people group this small sect of people with actual Republicans and conservatives. That is not the case. The definition of the “alt-right” doesn’t fall close to what a Republican is or stands for.

My whole life, I have always strived to be unapologetically me. I have always resisted changing myself for others to fit in and have never really felt like I needed to. For example, growing up, I cared a lot about politics and current events. I would always try to discuss this with my classmates, who didn’t care to listen and would have much rather talked about something else, in middle school and high school. But I never let my peers’ lack of interest halt my interest, and I continued to learn about politics and keep up with the news.
