May 10, 2012The Pick of the Week for week seven is the centerpiece design of Monday's paper, designed by Ashley Cappellazzi. This was a great example of concept-driven design and collaboration. The concept came about through brainstorming with writers and editors to get to the overall message of the story - that the maintenance backlog of university buildings hes been piling higher and higher. Instead of running a photo of a building, the page was able to convey that sense of the unstable accumulation of maintenance and the threat of everything falling apart. The page display itself was clean and well-designed to let the centerpiece have its day.
