Grant money for OU airport will enhance system

Ohio University's Gordon K. Bush airport will receive $231,313 in grant money from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), according to a press release from Sen. George Voinovich (R).

Candidates' promotion of servitude problematic

U-WIRE ' Over 60 million people volunteered in the United States last year, or over a quarter of the American populace. The U.S. is also home to 7,500 hospitals, 18,000 nursing homes, a school system that is heavily understaffed and a military that is dangerously undermanned. But last Thursday, Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain said that not enough Americans volunteer, and, they claim, this is because of a lack of opportunities.

Cure for the Common Question: Dealing with reverse culture shock

The first thing people ask me when I tell them I lived in France for a year is: How was the wine and cheese? While it's true that France is known for its food, my experience of getting to know and love the culture was so much more than eating. In fact, the second most asked question is: Was it weird coming back to the U.S.? This question echoes the reality of what we call reverse culture shock that most international travelers face when re-entering their host culture after an extended period of time. I know I'm not the only one who is coming off the globe-trotter high just in time to start classes again, so I thought it would be helpful to share my personal list of do's and don'ts for re-entry to Athens. Whether you spent the summer in East Asia or Western Europe, these tips should be helpful for the transition back into America, and more specifically, Ohio University.

Soft words, Hard arguments: Political group sends violent, rebellious message

Since their creation, college campuses have served as hotbeds of political activism and liberal ideas. It is clear that students are willing to organize, and sometimes radicalize, in order to make change. Even isolated campuses like Ohio University sometimes can show their teeth when the need (or whim) arises. Enter Students for a Democratic Society, or SDS.
