Self-replicating printers
Apr. 13, 2008Apparently, a group of computer programmers have invented a self-replicating 3-D printer, which is not just a printer that cannot only print objects like cups and cell phone parts, but a printer that can print out printers which can print objects like cups and cell phone parts. Given their self-replicating nature, it seems to me that these printers could become very cheap once the technology is perfected. The idea of every dorm room someday having a self-replicating three-dimensional printer is pretty awesome. My brother used to tell me about how when he was a freshman in Washington Hall he would use the dorm network to print unsolicited obnoxious pictures out on other peoples' printers from his own computer. Imagine the semi-destructive infestation one could cause by printing generation after generation of self replicating printers into a friends room. I wish I were going to college 50 years from now.
