Gruesome shock tacticts subvert PETA's otherwise laudable goals

Earlier this week, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals came to Ohio University's campus seeking to raise awareness about the conditions in which animals are treated in our society. Although PETA's message has noble and legitimate merits, the shock tactics the group chose to broadcast its message are shameful at best - and more likely can be described as despicable. Organizations that employ such drastic tactics to attempt to persuade passersby about their agenda only succeed in one regard: alienating the very people that the organization seeks to enlighten.

Bobcats' fire trumps OSU mob scene

The Ohio State University football game against Iowa on Sept. 24 was a new experience for me. It was the first game I watched at the Horseshoe. It was also the first Buckeye's game I attended that they actually won - I watched them lose an ugly game at Purdue in 2004. Although the actual kickoff was around noon, the festivities began early in the morning.

This side of the law

Ohio University's sponsored music downloading service - Cdigix - has rounded out its first year in use, aiding in the trend towards increased legal downloading. Online generators of illegal downloading have been facing some fierce competition of late on college campuses as an increasing number of universities are provide their students with access to legal file sharing programs. With the threat of lawsuits and that relatively inexpensive alternative, the university has laudibly provided students and faculty with an alternative to illegal downloading.

Volleyball celebrates 3 years of flawless results in the Convo

On Sept. 28, 2002, I was enjoying a weekend during my junior year as a student at Poland Seminary High School and putting my brand-new driver's license to good use. At Peden Stadium, Ohio defeated Buffalo 34-32 on a last-second field goal for the first home win of the Brian Knorr era. In Ames, Iowa, Frank Solich's Nebraska Cornhuskers lost to the Iowa State Cyclones, 36-14.
