Soulja Boy is coming to Ohio University in October

Hop out of bed, and “Turn (your) Swag On” because Soulja Boy is coming to Ohio University.

Soulja Boy, who is known for his songs “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and “Kiss Me Thru the Phone,"  will perform at River Gate apartments for RiverFest on Oct. 1.

“I think that it’s awesome because he’s been out for a while,” Jamie Verda, a freshman studying psychology, said. “I hope he plays his old stuff, like ‘Kiss Me Thru the Phone.’ ”

The event is being held by S.W.I.M. Team, the same group that held Indie Fest in spring 2015, according to a previous Post report. Along with Soulja Boy, various artists will perform during the fest, such as DJ Barticus, DJ Ace and Clubhouse. The event will begin at 2 p.m.

“The fun and exciting atmosphere that Ohio University has to offer stuck out with Soulja Boy,” Mike Carson, the owner of Mike's Dog Shack, said in an email.

The event is sponsored by Mike's Dog Shack, Jackie O’s Pub and Brewery, Broney’s Alumni Grill, Class A Sounds and River Gate apartments.

“Students can expect a fun, safe environment where they can let go of the stresses of midterms and experience a live event like no other in Athens’ history,” Carson said in an email. “There will be live local bands, food trucks, booths from local artists, as well as an opportunity for students looking for a place to rent in the near future (to see) the newest and best living facility around.”

Not all students were exited about the announcement.

“I honestly probably wouldn’t go. I haven't heard of him in a very long time," Kierstyn Hayden, a sophomore studying public health, said.

Admission is $20, and the event will feature food from The Burrito Buggy, Ali Babas and Mike's Dog Shack.

“I’m all in,” Trent Dressel, a junior studying management and strategic leadership, said. “Hypothetically, if I were in Las Vegas and given a thousand dollars to gamble on one game of blackjack, that’s how much I want to see him.”
