Pet Instagram Review: Fuzzberta & Friends, the fashion-friendly group of guinea pigs

Guinea pigs are generally regarded as easy-to-care-for pets and are by no means uncommon. What is uncommon, however, is dressing up Guinea pigs in miniature pilgrim and Leonardo da Vinci outfits and posing them for Instagram photos.

This week’s account does just that. Fuzzberta & Friends (@fuzzberta), with more than 125,000 followers, features the lives of a gang of guinea pigs. According to the bio, it follows the “Adventures of Fuzzberta, MiniGuineaPig, Jennifuzz, and jelly babies.” Some of the guinea pigs are very small and look like stuffed animals.

Quality of Pictures

The best posts of this account are the ones where the pigs are posing or wearing costumes. You can tell that a lot of time and effort goes into these posts. How do they get these rodents to sit so still? One post that stuck out particularly featured MiniGuineaPig dressed as da Vinci, complete with a guinea-pig-sized canvas with a painting of two guinea pigs. She’s even holding a little palette and brush.

A few phone-quality videos are featured on the account, which are usually adorable clips showing one of the tiny rodents eating, but many of the posed pictures seem to be well shot on a professional camera. These posts are planned and executed with great attention to detail. Many of them are seasonally themed, and others will make you wish you had a stylish guinea pig of your own.

Rate of Posts

You’ll generally see one to two posts per day, which is impressive considering the fact that whoever is running this account not only has to find costumes that will fit a guinea pig, but also put those costumes on said pig and make them pose. The ratio of quality to quantity of posts is spot on with this account.

Cuteness of Pet

There is a certain type of guinea pig featured on this account that I didn’t even know existed. The “Jelly Babies” are even smaller than a normal guinea pig and are fuzzy and love carrots. You’ll find plenty of videos of them chomping away on their favorite vegetable. If you weren’t a fan of guinea pigs already, you probably will be after a few minutes of scrolling through this account.

Rating: 5/5

This account is a breath of fresh air in an Instagram market oversaturated by dog and cat pictures. There’s nothing wrong with either, but sometimes you just have the sudden urge to see a rodent wearing a cowboy costume in a professionally-taken photograph. Or maybe that’s just me.
