McDavis to interview for Florida Gulf Coast president position Friday

Ohio University President Roderick McDavis will interview with Florida Gulf Coast University for the university’s president position Friday at 10 a.m.

McDavis was announced as one of 10 semifinalists Nov. 10 for the position at the Fort Myers, Florida, university. Virginia Hardy, vice chancellor for Student Affairs at East Carolina University, dropped out of the running for the position, leaving nine semifinalists to interview for the job, according to The News-Press in Southwest Florida. All candidates either interviewed Thursday or will be interviewed Friday.

In his letter to the search committee, McDavis cited the Promise Lives Campaign, the implementation of the Century Bond, enrollment growth and the Comprehensive Master Plan as some of his successes during his 12 years at OU.

The interview will be live-streamed on FGCU's website.

Florida Gulf Coast opened in 1997 and had about 13,700 undergraduate students enrolled for the 2015-16 academic year, according to the university’s Office of Planning and Institutional Performance. The university’s current president, Wilson Bradshaw, will step down June 30 after serving in the position since 2007.

McDavis previously worked in Florida multiple times in various positions at the University of Florida. Most recently, he served as a professor of education and dean of the College of Education at the University of Florida from 1994 to 1999.
