U. S. Rep. Bob Ney, R-St. Clairsville, recently announced his support for a proposed bill that would give rural and volunteer fire departments high priority when extra equipment from the Department of Defense is being distributed to fire departments across the nation.
According to a Ney news release, there is a large need for this legislation because volunteer and rural fire departments often operate on a limited budget and should be given an opportunity to receive unused federal equipment.
Currently, rural and volunteer fire departments are given low priority for the allocation of much needed equipment, said Ney spokesman Brian Walsh.
