In previous seasons, the Buffalo Bulls were like a safety net: no matter how far a team fell, the Bulls were always beneath it.
A quick start this season has the Bulls (5-7, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) ahead of Ohio (3-10, 0-3 MAC) in the MAC East standings and Bobcat players and coaches have taken notice.
This is a year that Reggie (Witherspoon) has been building toward
Ohio coach Tim O'Shea said. He's suffered with a few younger players and now they're getting older they're getting wiser to the league and they're learning how to win because they went through some hard times and they're in a better position.
The Bulls are no longer the easy game they once were. However, an easy game is something Ohio could use at this point in the current four-game losing streak, Stephens said.
Usually they're bad but give them credit. They always have good athletes every year we play them
Stephens said. For us
mentally
it's just hard when you play hard every game and you still find ways to come up short.
Buffalo has only one player scoring in double figures, guard Turner Battle, but four more players averaging 9.0 points or more per game.
(Battle) is a good player
but he's not averaging 28
29 points per game
we'll play him straight up
O'Shea said. At 12 points
he's a very solid point guard in this league
