Kent beats Ohio

The Ohio women's basketball team again proved that it can hang for 20 minutes with any school in the Mid-American Conference. The problem with that, of course, is that 20 minutes will only get a team to the half.

Ohio (7-10 overall, 1-5 MAC) dropped a 72-49 decision at Kent State Wednesday night, after playing to a 32-32 halftime tie. The Golden Flashes outscored the Bobcats, 40-17, during the second half.

Like our coaches told us

we need to put together a full game forward Latreece Bagley said. Forty minutes.

During the second half, Ohio converted just 5-of-28 shots, good for 18 percent. During the same span, Kent State (10-7, 3-3 MAC) hit 16-of-30 from the field, better than 53 percent. For the game, Kent State shot 47 percent, while Ohio hit just 30 percent of its field goal attempts.

We didn't really put the ball in the hole forward Erin Isbell said. We went on a dry spell. It was very frustrating. We were trying to get the best shot possible

trying to get the shots to fall. We're playing well. We just have to get our offense going.

Ohio also struggled with its 3-point shooting, hitting only 2-of-15 from beyond the arc, including 1-of-9 in the second half.

We've struggled with it all year

in regards to being inconsistent and knocking down the perimeter shot

coach Lynn Bria said. This game wasn't any different.

Kent held advantages in rebounding, 41-36, assists, 15-12, and blocks, 10-2. The Golden Flashes also outscored Ohio in the paint, 42-16, and chipped in more second-chance points, 14-8.

All this despite forcing Kent State's 6-foot-6-inch center, Andrea Csaszar, into early foul trouble and holding her to just seven points and five rebounds.

We got Csaszar in foul trouble

Bria said. We had her in foul trouble

and we couldn't build a lead.

Isbell led the Bobcats with a game- and season-high 15 rebounds, while Bagley paced the team on the offensive end of the floor with 12 points. Guards Candace Bates and Angel Hornsburger each scored nine points. Hornsburger also added five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

The Bobcats, in the midst of a three-game road stretch, will shoot for their second conference win 2 p.m. Saturday at Miami's Millett Hall.
