HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Marshall drew some blood, beating up on the Ohio men's basketball team Saturday night.
Ohio (5-12 overall, 2-5 Mid-American Conference) fell, 74-60, after a physical second half that sent guards Diamond Gladney and Thomas Stephens to the bench with blood running down their faces after colliding with Marshall players on two separate occasions. The game ended with a hard foul on Ohio guard Jaivon Harris for his fifth foul - this one ruled intentional - which sent Marshall forward Eric Smith to the ground while he was trying to dunk.
It was a physical game
just like the foul at the end of the game Ohio coach Tim O'Shea said. Jaivon did what you should probably try to do when a guy goes to dunk on you in a situation like that.
Although the game became more physical in the second half, Ohio looked lethargic on defense and on the backboards. Marshall (7-8, 4-3 MAC) out-rebounded the Bobcats, 41-32, which O'Shea said was the biggest factor in the loss. At times, Ohio players even found themselves fighting each other for the ball on rebounds.
I had my hand on three rebounds and my teammates would fight for it
and (Marshall) got the ball back
and if I'm not mistaking
I think they scored all three times
Ohio forward Delvar Barrett said. I was taught
if you touch the ball
you just grab it
so I just couldn't let it go. If that's my fault
then I take the blame. If it happens again
