Recently, the Ohio College Initiative invigorated a promise to Ohio Parents for a Drug Free Youth to reduce high-risk drinking on college campuses.
However, Ohio University officials have no plans to start any new alcohol-awareness programs inspired by the initiative. Current programs, such as Bring Your Own Judgment and providing late-night entertainment on campus, will continue.
Char Kopchick, director of health education and wellness at OU, said that the letter helped colleges renew their dedication and get everyone on the same page. It was a coordinated effort across the state of Ohio against high-risk drinking
she said.
The initiative's primary function is to share information about programs and ideas to reduce high-risk drinking on campuses, said OU Dean of Students Terry Hogan.
Essentially [the goal] is realizing a common problem and realizing that there are benefits of working together said Hogan.
Through regular meetings with a focus on strong communication, the initiative creates a forum that makes it easier to generate new ideas for new approaches and get feedback from other schools on those approaches
said Hogan. It keeps us moving forward.
OU's approach has been one of continual improvement. We are working day in and day out to change what we do
he said.
