If you blinked, you might have missed it.
A 3-pointer, a steal and a lay-up in 22 seconds broke a tie and gave Toledo a five-point lead heading into halftime. Those points keyed a 13-0 run that continued into the second half and downed the Ohio women's basketball team, 67-49.
Ohio (7-9 overall, 1-4 Mid-American Conference) was held to 23 points on 29 percent shooting in the second half as it dropped its fourth in a row to the Rockets.
It's always hard when you get yourself in a hole - it's kind of mental from there
said forward Erin Isbell. It's hard both physically and mentally.
A pair of Isbell free throws cut the Toledo (8-9, 3-3 MAC) lead to five with just less than 14 minutes to play, but Ohio never got any closer.
It's disappointing we came out so lethargic in the second half said Ohio coach Lynn Bria. I felt we didn't have a lot of energy for some reason.
Big runs have been uncharacteristic of Toledo this season, so a 13-0 surge was invaluable, Toledo coach Mark Ehlen said.
It was a little scary just having a slim lead for most of the game
he said. Traditionally this year
we've had a hard time getting any spurts. So any spurt for us is a big one
and that was one of them.
Midway through the first half, the Rockets switched to a zone.
The obvious thing is we have to hit some shots
Bria said. It was tough. They went to a zone
and it really bothered us.
Isbell and forward Latreece Bagley led Ohio with 10 points apiece, but Bagley didn't manage a point in the second half.
We just couldn't buy a basket
Bagley said. We were getting good shots. We just couldn't put the ball in the basket.
Ohio returns to conference action Wednesday versus Kent State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent.
