Writer, Comedian to perform at OU

Al Franken is set to perform to a sold-out crowd in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

A former Saturday Night Live writer and producer, Franken is bringing his tour to Athens to help welcome the dads, in addition to promoting his new book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.

Franken has poked fun at right-wing politicians since his days at SNL.

Franken was a member of the original SNL writing staff and stayed with the show until 1980. He returned in 1985 for another decade. He also starred in a movie based on his motivational SNL character, Stuart Smalley, in Stuart Saves His Family.

We get a lot of requests for Franken because of his new book

and with the upcoming election he is very popular among liberals said Lee Freedman, University Program Council public relations director. Franken has written several politically liberal books and, Freedman says he is the perfect choice for a speaker at a predominantly liberal school.

After the show, Franken's books will be available for purchase, and Franken will be on hand for signing.

Tickets went on sale last Friday and officially sold out yesterday, Freedman said.

Franken will take the stage at 8 p.m. Freedman suggests, It's general admission so it would be wise to get there around 7:15 to get a good seat.
