ZANESVILLE, Ohio - A fire that started in a first-floor bedroom of a two-story house killed a 7-year-old girl and critically injured two other people, firefighters said yesterday.
Kambi Winland died in the fire Wednesday night, authorities said.
Her brother, Andrew Winland, 6, was in Children's Hospital in Columbus, and John Fountain, 76, was in Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. Fountain's relationship with the children was not clear.
Fire Chief David Lacy said yesterday that while authorities have not determined the cause of the fire, it appears to be accidental. He said the house's three smoke detectors did not have batteries.
Zanesville is about 50 miles east of Columbus.
