Akron City Council seeks to clarify exposure question

AKRON - City Council has decided to clear up any confusion about the legality of baring bottoms.

The council will consider an ordinance today to declare that displayed derrieres in Akron are no different than anywhere else in Ohio.

It's not that there aren't more pressing issues out there

Council President Marco Sommerville said. We're just updating it. We're not trying to make new statements about it.

The council is responding to a question from a bar owner about how much exposure is legal.

While Ohio allows wearing a thong-style covering, Akron's zoning code allows such clothing only in a sexually oriented business, said John Moore, zoning administrator. So officials decided to bring the code in line with the state.

The only thing it really does is delete buttocks from the definition of nudity for the city code said Deborah Forfia, a city attorney. It simply means that walking around with some or all of your buttocks exposed is not necessarily considered nudity
