Baseball opens at Western Kentucky

It's getting close to spring, and that means baseball.

The Ohio baseball team does not have the luxury of spending weeks in Florida to practice on a natural surface before the regular season, but a trip to Western Kentucky (1-3) to play three games will do all the same.

At least this year a foot of snow isn't settled on the Athens terrain as the Bobcats head into the season opener.

Last year we weren't out on Peden field once before we went to (UNC) Greensboro

Ohio catcher Ben Crabtree said. This year we've actually gotten out there and we were actually able to play a little intra-squad game and had some sort of game-like situations so I think we'll be ready to start this season.

But the team isn't quite ready for competition, especially since the field at Bob Wren Stadium is still a bit frozen, Ohio coach Joe Carbone said.

We could beat anybody in the country in three batting cages indoors

Carbone said. Now that we know how the ball bounces around Peden Stadium

we could beat anybody in Peden Stadium I think.
