Campus Recreation's 4th annual bench press competition drew in a crowd at the Ping Center Lounge on Friday evening.
The event brought 35 competitors, 31 men and four women. Held every February for the past four years, the competition has doubled its number of participants since its first year.
Participants were given three minutes to complete each lift with a maximum of three attempts, according to event coordinator Sara Nadel. Each lift was subject to the three judges' approval.
Sophomore Bobby Forestall won his weight class last year and came back this year for another victory.
I found out about the competition last year while I was eating at the dining hall
and a friend told me to go that same night. This year my trainer Brian Cute
has helped me out a lot
Forestall said.
Prizes such as plaques, T-shirts, trophies and gift certificates were awarded to winners.
Winner of the women's 150 pound and more weight class, graduate student Amy Weinstein, said she thought she had a good chance of winning.
I was an athlete in college (as an undergraduate)
but I haven't worked out too much since. I am interested in weight lifting so I came today
