At yesterday's Athens County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners approved the Athens Fire Department to purchase a new computer server that runs the Inner Badge Program.
The Inner Badge program is a software program that law enforcement departments, such as the Sheriff's department and 911, use as a record-management tool.
The current server was bought with a police grant for the sheriff's department. The 911 emergency line also uses it as the main system for managing records. The estimated cost of the new computer system is $8,000.
Chief of Operations for 911 Emergency Doug Bentley proposed adding two more generators to the maintenance agreement with Buckeye Power Sales. The generators are used to provide emergency power to the 911 radio towers around the county. The county currently uses four generators under the agreement, but Bentley said officials would like to install two more this summer. Each maintenance agreement costs $420 a year.
Historical building designer William Kunkle came in with an proposal for the statue on top of the Athens Courthouse. He suggested fixing the statue and the roof around it. The commissioners requested that Kunkle come to next week's meeting with a proposal for the total cost of the project.
