A familiar persona to both college students and their parents will speak as part of the festivities of Parents Weekend at Ohio University.
Max Weinberg, a drummer for Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band as well as the music director and bandleader on Late Night With Conan O'Brien
is slated to speak Saturday.
Weinberg leads the Max Weinberg Seven on Late Night and joins in O'Brien's antics. According to his profile on the show's Web site, http://www.nbc.com/Late_Night_with_Conan_O'Brien/bios/Max_Weinberg.html, Weinberg has been with Late Night since 1993 and has worked on sketches such as Max on Max. He took a break from the show to play on the reunion tour of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band during parts of 1999 and 2000.
University Program Council cultural arts chair Kacie Scherry, an OU junior sport industry major, said Weinberg is showing video clips from his work with Late Night and with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
She said Weinberg was selected to speak in part because of his appeal to students and familiarity to visiting parents.
(The event) has to be appropriate for parents she said.
UPC plans in advance to have a big event for each of the major OU weekends, she said.
The event is sponsored by the UPC, which is funded by the Student Activities Commission.
