Group puts on prom

Grab your same-sex date and take them over to the Baker University Center Ballroom tonight for the Queer Prom. Sponsored by Ally, the free admission dance is open to anyone who wants to get his or her groove on.

The event starts at 9 p.m. and does not stop rocking until 1 a.m. Pictures are $1, and a frame for the picture is $3.

This is the first year Ally has held a queer prom and Ally President, Rich Maskiell said, A lot of people in the LGBT community didn't get to go to prom back in high school or didn't get to go with who they really wanted to go with. This is a second chance to do it right. Maskiell said the Queer Prom is a chance for LGBT students to feel comfortable for once at prom and be themselves.

While there is no dress code for the prom, Maskiell said, It is also a good excuse for everyone to get dressed up and party on a Friday night.

Funded by the Student Activities Commission, Ally put together a special prom committee to help organize the event. Donations are welcome.
