Two Ohio University trustees - one former and one current - received the Board of Trustees' highest honor last night.
G. Kenner Bush and Wilfred Konneker both received Founders Citations at Turning Two Hundred
the university's multimedia bicentennial celebration.
Bush, former publisher of The Athens Messenger, was a trustee on the OU Foundation board and has served on multiple OU advisory boards in the past 30 years. He and his wife, Margene, have endowed four Bush-Cutler Scholar Awards for graduates of Athens County high schools.
Bush said he was deeply moved to be selected by the trustees for the honor.
Konneker currently serves as one of two national trustees. The OU alumnus is a co-founder of the Cutler Scholars program. He and his wife, Ann Lee, are the namesakes of the alumni center, after they supported its purchase through a donation in 1980.
Trustee Patricia Ackerman and President Robert Glidden presented the awards.
A third person was supposed to receive a Founders Citation at tonight's celebration. Robert Mahn, an OU employee for 51 years, died Feb. 1, before he could receive the citation. He served as an administrator, in positions such as assistant to the president and secretary to the board of trustees. He also founded the university's archives, which are now named in honor of him and his wife. Glidden said he presented the award to Mahn's wife, Jean, at the funeral. 17
