Baseball comes back home

Barring a continuation of snow flurries, the Ohio baseball team will take to the field at Bob Wren Stadium today for the second time this year.

Ohio coach Joe Carbone said he expects the game to be played because forecasts predict no precipitation.

The Ohio baseball team (2-5) will try to keep its home record perfect during a two-game series against James Madison that begins today. The Bobcats have played just one game at home, but it was a 14-0 rout against West Virginia State.

The Bobcats must overcome a three-game losing streak and the loss of catcher Ben Crabtree, who is getting his wrist looked at after being hit by a pitch Saturday. The losing streak came at the hands of the best team the Bobcats have faced on the young season - UNC-Greensboro.

Carbone said he plans to use a platoon of Brian White and Willie Walker to fill in the outfield, while Phil Sabatini moves to catcher.

They did a pretty credible job

Carbone said.

Losing Crabtree's bat will hurt. He entered the season as the Mid-American Conference Preseason Player of the Year. In six games, he was hitting .320 (8-for-25) with three home runs and seven runs batted in. Crabtree was expected to go to the doctor yesterday to determine the severity of the injury.

Carbone said he plans to start Rob Harmon in today's game and Adam Russell in Wednesday's game. Harmon left due to back tightness after an inning Saturday, but Carbone said he thinks Harmon will be ready to go.

He says he'll be OK Carbone said.

Ohio is also without starter Marc Cornell, who is still recovering from offseason surgery.

With Cornell not being in there now everybody moves up

Carbone said.

Freshman hurler Zeke Isaacs will get the start if either Russell or Harmon cannot go. Carbone said he likes Isaacs' stuff, which includes a high-80's fastball and a solid curveball.

The Bobcats play host to James Madison at 3 p.m. today at Bob Wren Stadium.
