Even though Kent State guard Eric Haut's 3-point attempt in the final seconds would have only tied the game against Ohio, coach Tim O'Shea knew it would have meant the end for his Bobcats.
The shot rolled around the rim and fell out and resulted in a tip-in by a teammate, but it was not enough as Ohio (10-19 overall, 7-11 Mid-American Conference) escaped with a 60-59 win against the Golden Flashes (20-7, 13-5 MAC).
If we go to overtime with no big men left to guard (7-foot Kent State center John) Edwards
we're done O'Shea said. They're just going to throw it in to him. (Forward) Terren (Harbut) is going to foul out. I'll probably put (forward Jeff) Halbert on Edwards; I'll put (6-foot guard) Diamond (Gladney) on Edwards or something. That's what it's going to look like at the end because all he's going to do is score every time.
