At yesterday's Athens County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners approved the consultants' contract and services of Historical Design for the renovation of the Athens County Courthouse at an estimated cost of $775,000.
The contract for $24,900 ensures that Historical Design will oversee the project and hire the construction contractor and crew. If the project bids are in by May, the project should be completed this winter, said commissioner Bill Theisen. There is no deadline for project bids.
Also at the meeting, Ann Fugate, an Athens County tuberculosis board member, submitted a contract, which the commissioners signed, to pay costs for tuberculosis testing at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
In other news:
- The bid openings on the sheriff's high band radio equipment were reviewed by the commissioners. They received bids from Millerburg Communications for $96,985.40, BVC Communications for $98,504 and Lloyd's Electric for $83,962.81. Chief of Operations for 911 Emergency Doug Bentley reviewed the three bids to see if they matched bid specifications, and recommended the approval of the lowest quote offered, from Lloyd's Electronics, to whom the commissioners awarded the contract.
- The commissioners approved the hiring of Jessica Baer as the Social Program Coordinator within the Child Support Enforcement Agency. The Department of Job and Family Services recommended Baer for the position. Her starting pay rate for the full-time job is $16.65 an hour.
- The commissioners' negotiations for a three-year labor contract to cover deputy wages and benefits with Athens County Sheriff deputies had come to an impasse, so they submitted a report to FactFinder to work on the contract. FactFinder is an online service that provides impartial information about contracts. The commissioners approved the use of FactFinder and are waiting for the deputies to approve it as well in order to sign the contract.
