Track hits wall at meet

Up against the strongest field of the season, the Ohio men's and women's track teams both finished toward the bottom of the indoor Mid-American Conference Championships this weekend.

Overall

we missed the mark on what we wanted Ohio coach Clay Calkins said. We didn't finish where we wanted to but it's a young team this year.

The men scored 20 points. Eastern Michigan won the meet with 186.

Scott Mayle led the team in scoring and capped an undefeated indoor season in the long jump. His first-place jump of 24 feet 2 1/4 inches earned half the Bobcats' total score.

Mayle edged out Marc Mitchell of Kent State by 1 1/2 inches with his second to last jump in the finals.

It felt pretty good to keep it going

not to lose this season

Mayle said, even though I didn't jump as well as I thought I should.

Mayle also notched one point with an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.0 seconds). Times were rounded to tenths because the meet timing system failed during Mayle's heat.

Jeremy Keesee upped his season best in the high jump to finish sixth (6' 6 1/4)

scoring three points.
