Ohio University employee Dominick Brook, who lives at 9 1/2 S. High St., said the aftermath of a mudslide behind 7 S. High St. on Jan. 5 is still affecting his property.
Brook said his landlord, Roy Whitmore, has been cooperative in dealing with mud that is still on the property as a result of the mudslide, but that he has received no cooperation from the city or from the property owners of 7 S. High St.
Students who live at 7 S. High St. still have not been allowed to return to their home and are currently living in two apartments in the University Commons.
And because 7 S. High St. is private property, Brook said Code Enforcement Officer Paul Eschenbacher told him it is the responsibility of the house's owners to see that the dirt is removed from the property.
The landlord of 7 S. High St., Nancy Matthews, has arranged for dirt to be removed from the property twice, but Brook said she has told him that she has no definite plans to remove more at this point, nor does she have a long-term solution for the slippage of mud onto the property.
Matthews could not be reached for comment.
Correction: The house identified as 9 1/2 S. High St. in a photo caption yesterday was actually 9 S. High St., which has not been affected by a mudslide three months ago. The resident of 9 1/2 S. High St. has been allowed to move back into his house.
