Ohio pitcher Dan O'Rourke was named Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week after pitching a complete game against Marshall Sunday.
He pitched a great game for us
Ohio coach Joe Carbone said. In the ballpark where he only gave up three hits and two runs it's a really small ballpark.
For the week, O'Rourke went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA. He pitched 10 innings, giving up three earned runs and six hits while striking out nine and walking four.
O'Rourke leads the Bobcats with two complete games and is second on the team with 42 2-3 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts. It is the first time O'Rourke has received the award.
Freshmen do their part
Three Ohio freshmen contributed offensively in last weekend's series against Marshall.
Infielder Bryant Witt went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs on Saturday. On Sunday he added 2 hits in 4 at-bats and drove in one run.
Outfielder Willie Walker contributed to the Ohio offense with one hit and scored two runs on Saturday. He also had another hit Sunday and drove in three runs.
Infielder Dusty Hammond went 1-for-4 on Sunday.
Catcher tries hand at first
Ohio catcher Ben Crabtree has got experience playing first base in recent games.
Right now we got him playing first base against left-handed pitchers so we can get some other right-handed hitters in the line-up Carbone said. That puts (Phil) Sabatini there catching so that gives us Brian White and Bryan Buck in the outfield.
