Center asks to buy business incubator

In yesterday's Athens County Commissioner's meeting, the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks proposed purchasing the Nelsonville Entrepreneurship Center and Business Incubator building for $2 million. The commissioners support the proposal.

Chief Operating Officer for ACEnet, Don Holycross, said the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks employs 16 people.

Theisen said it is a growing business, which will probably hire six to eight more people soon.

In other news:

- The commissioners signed a proclamation declaring May as Foster Care Month. Andy Ellinger from Athens County Children Services said that with more than 120 children in Athens County in need of foster care, it is important to recognize the value and need Athens has for foster parents.

- Chief Deputy Auditor David Owen came in with a petition that recognizes maintenance staff's efforts on projects such as computer and phone line installation, remodeling and bike path repairs and maintenance.

Owen wrote that while the commissioners are continually dealing with what is wrong with the county, these people contribute to what is right in Athens. The commissioners signed the petition.
