At yesterday's Athens County Commissioner's meeting, the Sheriff's Department received 17 full face piece respirator assemblies, 17 3M Air Purifying Cartridge Agents and 17 leg mounted respirator pouches through Homeland Security Grants.
The equipment is to be maintained and made available by the sheriff's office in case of a weapons of mass destruction event.
The commissioners also allowed 911 Chief of Emergency Operations Doug Bentley to finalize an Electrical Service contract to improve high-band radio frequency in the tower on Columbus Road.
-The commissioners approved the purchase of a Gradall machine, which is used to make ditches, for $250,000 at the county engineer's request.
-Jennifer Frommer from the Drescher subdivision asked the commissioners to approve giving George Drescher $1,770 in compensation money for damage done to his property while putting in a sewer line. Drescher's property is next to the Drescher subdivision in Athens County.
Drainage pipes were damaged while the line was being installed, said commission president Bill Theisen. About 100 feet to 120 feet of a ditch will have to be repaired to improve drainage on his property.
-The commissioners authorized the purchase of radio equipment for Emergency Management Agency director Jill Harris' vehicle and the EMA office out of the terrorism fund.
-A used Ford truck will be purchased by county worker Charlie Brown for the usage of the maintenance crew for $9,100.
-A special prosecutor will be hired by Prosecuting Attorney C. David Warren to handle all prosecutions of his employees' friends. Theisen said Warren would have problems handling the cases.
