LEBANON - A man who retired as a police officer as investigators reopened the case of his wife's death has been jailed and implicated in the 9-year-old slaying.
Thomas James Jim Barton was charged Friday with two counts each of complicity to involuntary manslaughter and complicity to aggravated burglary and one count of complicity to burglary in the April 1995 death of Vickie Barton. The charges accuse Barton of taking part in the crime even though he did not fire the fatal shots.
Barton was in the Warren County jail on Saturday.
The nurse was found shot in the head in the bedroom of the couple's farmhouse in rural Franklin Township, 30 miles north of Cincinnati, hours after having lunch in a park with her husband.
The Springboro police department placed Jim Barton on leave in January, and he retired as a lieutenant the next month.
Warren County Sheriff Tom Ariss said his office is still seeking the others involved.
Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel would not say at a news conference Friday what new evidence has been found.
