Men's golf ninth at Marshall, women's strong at James Madison

The Ohio men's golf team had its most solid weekend of the spring season at the Marshall Invitational, but fans would not know it by looking at the team's finish.

Despite ending the tournament in ninth with a team score of 889, every Bobcat broke 80 in every round, and senior Brian Bickle shot 71 and 70 in the first and third rounds to end the tournament in a tie for 21st at 218. Ryan Siekmann also put on his best performance of the season, a tie for 28th which included a 1-over-par 72 in the first round at 220.

Mark Cimarolli (73-78-75- 226), Jon Johasky (75-74-78- 227) and Brian Elsea (78-77-77- 232) concluded scoring for the Bobcats.

Ohio State golfer Kevin Hall took home medalist honors for the first time in his career by shooting a tournament-record 205 for the weekend, which included a 6-under 65 in the first round. That helped Ohio State blow away the competition by nine shots, end with a team score of 847 and win its 17th Marshall Invitational.

Marshall, the host of the tournament and a Mid-American Conference competitor, shot 863 to finish in third place behind Ohio State and Xavier.

Ohio has a weekend off to prepare for the First Energy Intercollegiate April 24-25 at Firestone Country Club in Arkon.

Ohio women's golf ties for 5th at James Madison

Ohio golfer Julie Tomlinson had the round of her career Friday, shooting a tournament low 3-under-par 69 to stand atop the leaderboard after round one at the JMU Invitational. She could not hang on to the top spot, however, shooting an 84 and 82 in the last two rounds to finish in 32nd at 235.

James Madison golfer Jayme Langford took medalist honors by shooting 219 (70-75-74) on the weekend. Ohio (302-315-314) ended the tournament in a tie with Penn State for fifth at 931.
