Spirits are high for the Ohio softball team as it travels to Ball State (9-22 overall, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) for a three-game series this weekend. The Bobcats are on a three-game winning streak and are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Marshall.
They're feeling really high right now
Ohio coach Roanna Brazier said. Those were two big wins for us. They're feeling good.
Ball State and Ohio have had similar seasons in some regards. Both teams had a rough start before getting into conference play. Ball State began the season 1-13 while Ohio started 4-14. Ohio (9-19, 3-2 MAC) and Ball State also are ranked in the bottom two in the MAC in fielding percentage and earned run average.
However, the big difference between the teams is how they have performed offensively. Ohio ranks second in the conference in batting average while Ball State is last.
We probably offensively have an advantage over a lot of teams
outfielder Erin Chapman said. We're pretty solid one through nine
and I don't think a lot of other teams have that.
Brazier is not looking too much into Ball State's statistics, despite the fact that it ranks near the bottom of the conference in fielding, pitching and hitting.
Ball State has always played us strong
Brazier said. They've had good pitching. They've hit the ball. They've played good defense. Their record doesn't show what kind of team they are.
