Today marks the beginning of Spring Clean-up Week in Athens where residents can have an unlimited number of trash bags picked up for no extra charge
on their normal trash day, Mayor Ric Abel said.
Residents also can place large items, such as furniture, on the curb without calling ahead, but items larger than four cubic yards carry a minimum fee of $15. For exact prices, residents can call the Utilities Billing office at 592-3347, he said.
Trash and scrap metal can be deposited in dumpsters at the city service garage, 387 W. State St. No tires or building material, however, will be collected. Residents must bring a photo identification to verify they live in Athens, Abel said.
