If I ran the sporting world,
Track would rule all
As it is the greatest sport ever,
The greatest of them all.
Much like Dr. Seuss' Circus McGurkus
From his highly acclaimed book If I ran the Circus,
Track offers everything, things you'd never even know
Phenomenal phenomena only phenoms could show.
With pole vaulters vaulting vaults over poles without fault,
And hurdlers clearing hurdles speedily over asphalt.
And by and by the jumpers fly high,
Jumping jumps that only real jumpers could jump a bunch.
And the distance teams are no different
With their immense gait and heart rate;
For in a melee of energy abounding so great,
There's a fury of the improbable as runners push late
And for what? To tempt fate, or maybe a date?
Pushing through aches and breaks,
for Pete's sake they create
Unbreakable records to make others irate.
And for this they receive no endorsements galore
No standing O's or crowds at a roar.
They create no lore, and very few adore
The accomplishments these athletes accomplish,
Who only give more and more and more
So now only three athletes
Are competing this year
And who are they? Who knows?
Only the best athletes here.
Unnoticed they'll go
But give them their props
For as far as athletes go
No doubt, they're tops.
